We (finally) put up the tracks from So Very Sickened: A Gloomy Tribute To The Smiths and Morrissey. Go here to hear them. Also, we added some tracks to the music section, including never-before posted songs by Glove Compartment and Question Mark.
Also, we're still looking for contestants for America's Next Top Pharmacist. So e-mail Matthew if you want to take part. The prizes are very exciting....

we've just announced the most exciting contest ever! go here to read all about it and enter.

hey everybody!
well, autumn is finally setting in, and aren't we all excited that this year all the girls at brown have decided to go faux-british country casual and are matching their pumpkin and cranberry paddington bear jackets with luscious scarves? white coats are also in and, yes, despite their lack of practicality, they just make me want to coo.
anyway, over in gloomy land, the boys you know and totally wish you were have been hard at work on a few new projects. none of you have gotten your smiths tributes yet because, um, they haven't actually had the money to buy envelopes, but don't fret, they'll be on their way soon. and what better time to listen to glove compartment's some girls are bigger than others or ray's this charming man than on a chilly autumn evening?
not only that, but there might be mega-ultra-super changes coming at the website in the near future, so if anybody has any helpful suggestions, let us know stat and we'll thank you with a smile and, if you're nearby, maybe even grace you with our presence or bring muffins to your house.
Also, if you really really want to see the GP's in person, why not go to Luke's this Saturday afternoon? It's the last day of the record store's annual sale, and the boys will have both just gotten paid, so you know there's going to be truckloads of new Samantha Fox records at the Casa de los Gloomys.
A so Delia from the Hive Archive is organizing a kiss-in across the street. So if you want to get to see your favorite band making out, that's probably going to be your only chance for awhile. However if you do miss it, we do have a photographer on board with us to catch the whole do on film.
sightings
M and E wreaking havoc in vintage sport coats all over Providence. Do we sense a new trend? This might be even more exciting than those I Love Aaron t-shirts they rocked all summer. M and his roommate, M2, walking around the house singing. Hmmm.... I smell gingerbread. Could something be in the air? M, E, M2, K, and various others entertaining Providence with their wild karaoke versions of "He's A Rebel" and "96 Tears" (M), "Bang Bang" and "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" (E), and "Sea of Love" and "I Love Rock and Roll" (M2). Catch the gang Thursdays at the uber-cheesy PJ Fitzgerald's and the uber-dingy Safari Lounge, and on Saturdays at the uber-normal Muldowney's. Also, was that E we saw getting carded not once but twice on his way in to see A Dirty Shame?
questions
Dear gloomygrrl,
Why haven't you asked us for a top ten list in a long time?
--kasey
Dear Kasey,
Good question! It porbably has something to do with the fact that Matthew hasn't had any e-mail access in a long time. But now's as good a time as any. How about, going with the karaoke theme, the top 10 songs you've always wanted to sing for an audience? Also, on a more practical level, how about the top 10 things you would change about the website if you had your way?
Dear gloomygrrl,
Is there anything at all new at the website in the last two months?
--toolazytolook
Dear lazy,
Well, Ethan's written a few movie reviews, although not in the last couple of weeks. Most recently he presented the world with his thoughts on Mira Nair's Vanity Fair. Other than that, it's true. Not much has changed.
Well, that's it for now. I have to go pick out something to wear. My whole weekend's booked with S's underwear party on Friday, G's birthday party (and an Eyesores show) on Saturday, PJ Harvey on Monday and then the Faint on Wednesday. Plus there's only twenty-five days left to plan for Halloween costumes....Hope to see you around!
you know you love us,
the gloomy pharmacists

hey everybody--
i have exactly four minutes left on my lunch break to send out this
message. luckily, there's not that much news, but what there is is
hella exciting, as people might have said in 1997.
we've got a new ep!
completed just yesterday, we're proud to announce the release of
SO VERY SICKENED: A GLOOMY TRIBUTE TO THE SMITHS
AND MORRISSEY, featuring sour songs by the gloomy
pharmacists, glove compartment, the glueguns, and ray. and i have
to say, i think it's our best ep yet.
now, what with the fact that we're desperately poor, this time we're
only going to send free copies to the fifteen or so people on the
discussion list. if any of the rest of you want one, and frankly, you
should, e-mail me and then i'll ask you for money. or, you know, if
you want to pay us in muffins or sexual favors or your old expose
45s that's fine, too. (fine for me, i don't know if ethan likes 'point of
no return' as much as i do.... but i digress.)
also, because i'm a loser, chances are i've lost all your addresses
again. so re-sending those wouldn't hurt, either. anyway. back to
the salt mines.

ethan finally got off his bottle and put up his movie reviews. he came to some realizations about his old ones, so there aren't very many. but the ones that are up are at least as good as all of the old ones combined. so enjoy!
also, matthew is getting rid of a lot of his junk, including cds, books, and records, including lots of french poetry and not one, but two copies of the best of anne murray, a canadian working in the american idiom. sorry, no heroin, even though we said junk.
7/5/04
we announced a new pledge drive of sorts today. sign up for our mailing list and get a free mix cd. sign a friend up and get three free mix cds (two for you, one for them). sign up for our yahoogroup and get two free mix cds.
also, we announced our summer ep, which is going to be all smiths and morrissey covers. once you're on the yahoogroup you get it for free. even if you, like, sign up for the yahoogroups and then change your settings to 'don't receive any e-mails.) and, if you want, you can do your own smiths cover and get to be on the ep, too.
oh, and there's some new reviews up as well, including matthew's best of 2004 half-year list.
5/7/04
it's ethan's birthday. matthew finished school today. cards and presents are not necessary, but will not be turned away.
4/28/04
The Beautiful People list is up! Go here to see it.
4/9/04
things have been pretty quiet around here lately. we've been all tied up with the biennial, and with school. in less than two months that part will be over, at least. then we'll go back to being full-time rock stars. until then, head over to the beautiful people section of the website to vote for who you think ought to be on our 2004 Most Beautiful People In The World list. Or else....
3/4/04
we need a logo! we're having a contest. here's what you do: design us a logo, e-mail it to us as a .jpg or a .gif file, and if you make one of the three best logos you'll win stuff, just from us. for more details, click here.
Oh, and there's two new Glove Compartment songs, Gonna Be Your Man and Mumbo Jumbo, up at the Music page.
2/16/04
the gloomys were held last night, and boy was it exciting. sadly, no pictures of the event exist, but at the gloomys section of the website there's lots of pictures of before and after the event, as well as a complete list of winners. sondre lerche got three, lemony snicket got two, and lost in translation got sixty-seven thousand, but NOT best movie. what did? you'll have to go see.
2/9/04
at the grammys last night, there was a speech where the president of naras managed to confuse funding for arts education in schools with people downloading mp3s, and then premeired a really dumb commercial where the lights go off in a club because some girl downloaded the pink song. because this is so unbelievably stupid, in the next couple of days we're going to put EVERY gloomy pharmacists song online. not that there's actually that many, mind you, but we're doing it anyway. even the christmas songs.
2/9/04
furthermore, right after the gloomys next monday we're going to put an entire new ep up on the website, featuring tracks by the glueguns and glove compartment, as well as our friends maarten, anthony, and ray.
2/3/04
the gloomy biennial was officially announced today. it's an art festival that we're going to bring to you in the summer of 2004. we'll be looking for submissions from now until the beginning of may, so let us know what you do. for more information, check out the biennial section of the website.
2/1/04
the gloomy award nominations came out today. justin timberlake, sondre lerche, belle and sebastian led the music nominations, with lost in translation, lilya 4-ever and laurel canyon getting the most movie nods. question mark got a nomination for best album cover (for creature), and gloomy fan david levithan got three nominations--bet novel, best book for kids, and best young adult novel--for boy meets boy. the awards will be announced february 15th
1/18/04
the new website opened up wider, with new pages for news, top 10 lists, music, and more. matthew's cd reviews are almost all back (although the pictures aren't), but it might be a little while before ethan's movie reviews come back because he's a little internet-deprived.
1/1/04
the new website opened up for the first time, with the pharmacists releasting
the (currently) internet-only covers EP, featuring tracks by the Gloomys
as well as by Glove Compartment and our friend Ray.
11/23/03
in slightly less negative news, there's going to be another
christmas ep this year (ta-da!) only this year we're not
actually
going to do christmas songs. the theme of this year's
christmas
ep is covers--more specifically, covers of songs that came out
this year. the cd'll feature the gloomy pharmacists, the
glueguns, glove compartment, the glossy 8X10's, shadowfighter,
and, you know, perhaps some other people as well.
and in other other news, there's going to be another EP out
soon.
in january, most likely. but that's all we're going to say
about
that, except that we're probably actually going to charge for that
one, just so that we won't have to spend the rest of our lives in
debtors' prison.
6/13/03
if anybody's in the boston area, and come to think of it i don't
think any of you are, i'm going to be on here and now today on
wbur (90.9), talking about the movie spellbound (the spelling bee
documentary, not the hitchcock movie). i'm the expert guest,
having been the best speller in cranston rhode island in 1992.
8/17/02
because ethan insists on going to school in the goddamn buckeye
state, and because i go to school in the goddamn ocean state, and
because they're separated by nutmeg and empires and keystones
and whatnot, we don't see each other for most of the
year. so, this
fall we're both going to set to work on side
projects. ethan's is called
glove compartment. it's going to be all lush and
pretty-like, with lots
of samples and a parade of guest vocalists. not a literal
parade, unless
he's planning one and i don't know about it. that would be
sort
of fun, as long as it wasn't like the fourth of july parade we
went to this year where everybody was pretending to be americans
blowing up osama bin laden. if it was more like the
old-fashioned
kind of parade, with beauty queens waving from the back of
convertibles and mayoral candidates walking and waving and
shanking hands and kissing babies. that'd be fun.
