MIA (given name: Maya Arulpragasam) released her album (last year's Arular) about two days too late for her to make it on to our 2005 Beautiful People list. Since then she's made just about every Albums of the Year list there was and got a guest-rap on Missy Elliott's last album.

MIA made the list because even though she was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize, she still left the ceremony early to go pick up her mother.
